Summary
Jesus as King: Matthew opens by calling Jesus "the son of David" (Matt. 1:1), establishing His royal lineage. The Gospel repeatedly shows Him as the Messiah-King who brings the kingdom of heaven near. Yet His kingship subverts expectations: not military conquest, but humble entry, rejection, crucifixion as "King of the Jews," and resurrection proving eternal rule.
